With the help of Main Street, the City of Caldwell is welcoming another new business to the downtown area.

The Sweet Shop will sell a variety of local candies, ice cream, and will even sell bicycles. The shop is located at on Buck Street catty-corner to the courthouse. The shop will replace the old Tribune building, which has been left vacant since 2003.

"I saw the potential in this this town," says Cesar Mora, Sweet Shop co-owner. "I have been asking myself for the last three years, what would be good for Caldwell?"

Mora says he wants the shop to be a community hub, where people can display local art and music.

The sweets, as well as the name of the shop, was his wife's idea.

"It flew out of her mouth," says Mora. "What about ice cream and candy? I was sold."

Main Street in Caldwell says locals have clamoring for a candy shop ever since they've arrived.

The bike shop is Mora's passion, and it is one he'd like to pass off to others in Caldwell.

"Especially the kids, I want to get them excited about riding bicycles," said Mora. "To me, cycling is freedom. When I was a kid, cycling, it's freedom."

Construction has been underway for three weeks. Mora says best case scenario, the Sweet Shop could be up and running as early as Valentines day 2018.
