COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) - It's a brand new year and College Station city leaders say the area will be seeing even more growth in 2018.
"We see 2018 as a really strong year for new development, new restaurants, new businesses, just development overall for College Station," said Natalie Ruiz, director of economic development for College Station.
The city says the new Jones Crossing development along Wellborn Road is expected to have walls going up soon.
"They have about 50,000 square feet of retail that will be constructed as part of the HEB site that will be different types of retail uses; restaurants, gyms, there's also plans for an entertainment type facility," said Ruiz.
The development is set to be finished by the end of summer.
Century Square's commercial space is growing, too.
"We're seeing new restaurants such as Mo's Irish Pub that will soon be under construction. Berry Hill Baja Grill will also be under construction soon as well as Hey Sugar and an ice cream place that will be in there as well," said Ruiz.
Local business owner Costa Dallis says 2018 looks to be a big year for him, too.
"We're going to open up a new concept on university between Embassy Suites and Aggieland Outfitters called Burger Mojo and it's going to be a 24 hour craft burger concept," said Dallis.
He also has plans to open up a brick and mortar La Bodega next door to his restaurant Café Eccel and a satellite version of the restaurant inside the Backyard Bar on Northgate.
"It's certainly exciting for the city to be growing and for all the things to be happening," said Dallis.
The city said they expect to have names of multiple business that will be coming to the Jones Crossing development in the next few weeks.
A new Starbucks is also opening on William D. Fitch Parkway near Tower Point.
