GUILTY VERDICT: Joshua Herrin found guilty for 2022 shooting of Bryan officer

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) - A Brazos County jury found Joshua Herrin, the man accused of shooting two local officers among other charges in 2022, guilty on Thursday morning of Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant.

In this phase of his trial, Herrin was found guilty of shooting and injuring a Bryan PD officer.

According to testimony heard Tuesday, the Bryan PD officer attempted to pull Herrin over in December 2022 because the vehicle he was driving, which was alleged to have been stolen, had a taillight that wasn‘t working. Herrin told the jury his license was suspended, so he didn’t want to pull over. This incident eventually led to Herrin shooting the officer then stealing his patrol unit, and leading multiple law enforcement agencies on a manhunt lasting more than 12 hours.

Herrin’s trial officially began Tuesday and wrapped up Thursday morning. The punishment phase kicked off Thursday afternoon and is expected to last a number of days.

The jury deliberated on Herrin’s guilty verdict for seven minutes.
