Jury selections made in trial for man accused of 2022 shooting of 2 Brazos Co. officers

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - A man accused of leading numerous Brazos County law enforcement agencies on a 12-hour manhunt in December 2022 and shooting two public servants is having his week in court.

On Monday, a jury was selected to decide Joshua Herrin’s case. Herrin was indicted on charges of Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant. A Bryan Police Officer and Brazos County Deputy were shot during the lengthy search to get Herrin behind bars,

According to police, a Bryan officer attempted to pull Herrin over on Dec. 30, 2022 when Herrin shot and injured the officer, then stole his patrol car.

Two bystanders are credited in helping the officer and making a tourniquet until backup arrived. Herrin, at one point, ditched the police vehicle and stole another vehicle. This is what he was later spotted driving by a Brazos County deputy near Benchley hours after the first incident.

Herrin then engaged in an altercation with the deputy where the deputy was shot and injured.

Herrin was located, still in Benchley, by responding officers, who said they entered a shootout with Herrin and he was shot in the head. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan and treated for injuries. No other officers were injured.

Herrin is facing up to 99 years in prison if he’s found guilty. The jury selected on Monday included six women and seven men.
